The current version supports Mac OS X 10.5 or above, both 32 bit and 64 bit. It does not work on older hardwares like the PowerBook or iMac. Here are the setup instructions: 1. Download and run the installer on Mac. At the end of the installation you will be asked to reboot your Mac. After rebooting you should see the PdaNet icon on the menu bar. During installation PdaNet will add an ethernet interface ('en2' in most cases) to your network list.
If the network preferences window pops up, just selected 'Apply' with the default DHCP settings. If it doesn't, please bring up network perferences manually to make sure it uses DHCP. On your phone go to Settings-Applications-Development and check 'USB Debugging'. Now you need to add PdaNet to your phone side.

On the Mac click on the PdaNet menu bar icon and select 'Install PdaNet to Phone' then wait for it to complete. After this launch PdaNet on the phone and enable USB Tether. Now when you connect your phone to the computer, you should see the menu icon changes state, click on it to connect. When the icon stops blicking and turns blue, your computer should be online. If the PdaNet menu bar icon does not stop blicking when you connect PdaNet, you will need to manully add the new network interface: open Network Preference on Mac and select '+', then add the 'en' interface with the highest number. Network traffics on the Mac will go through PdaNet only if your system does not have other connectivities.
Want to tether your Android device but confused with many tools, then let’s check out a tool which is called as PDANet which is basically a free application. For those who don’t know what is, tethering basically turns your smart phone into a modem which can be then connected to a Laptop or to a computer so that you need not search for any other means of internet like 3G or even WiFi.
Tethering can be done in many ways but it is recommended to tether via USB cable than wireless option. Though, PDANet software is free, but a full version will cost around 24$. So, let’s check out how you can tether your Android device with Windows or Mac computer: Before we proceed to the step by step procedure on tethering PdaNet you need to first download this tethering app from the Android Marketplace and also install the software on the Windows or Mac computer. Download the and place the downloaded file in SD card and run the installation package from your phone. Now, you need to configure the PDANet software tool on your desktop. During the installation you will be prompted to select your phone manufacturer so connect your device via USB but before that ensure that you have enabled USB debugging mode on your Android phone which can be done by going into Settings Applications Development where you can enable USB Debugging.
You may see some warning but you can accept that. After installing the PDANet software for your Windows or Mac and on Android smart phone you need to search for PDANet in Android market place and need tothe application.
Now, its time to connect your device to your computer. As soon as you have installed the applications on both the as well as on computer it’s time to tether now.
So first connect your device via USB, go to PDANet app on your smart phone and select Enable USB tether and then use the USB cable to connect your device the laptop. As soon as you connect your device to the laptop or to the desktop you will get a notification on which you need to click on Connect option to proceed for tethering your device.
Also, you can right click on PDANet icon on task bar and can select Connect Internet option. In a similar way you can also connect via Bluetooth instead of USB cable, for this you need to Enable Bluetooth DUN in the android application and then pair your laptop or computer via Bluetooth. I was using PDAnet on my Garminfone from Tmobile and never had any trouble at all, then I switched to Verizon and got a Droid Incredible, the VZaccess manager enabled tethering and the speed was incredible, much faster than pdanet. My Droid was stolen, and Insurion replaced it with the new Incredible2, and wouldn’t you know, VZaccess won’t work with the new phone, Verizon wants to make sure that newer phones have to use the Hotspot feature so they can make that extra dollar when you exceed the pathetic (and seemingly arbitrary) 2gig limit.
So now hopefully I can find pdanet again and go that routebut Yes, PDAnet was awesome and I found it at just the right time. I worked the other day on this for over 14 hours and I finally gave up and havent touched it since. It is a new phone I got for my father and he is without right now. I got him an LG Optimus and am confused as how to get this phone to work as a hard drive (unable to get to the sd card in windows).
I have the Evo and do not even try with it or know 1/10 of what it can do and really do not want to learn another phone just to install this program. Does anyone know what the instructions are missing that is making this so difficult for me? (maybe a brain??
LOL) Thanks, Shary.
